Men's, women's soccer earn national tournament berths

Trine University's men's and women's soccer team each received their first bids to the NCAA Division III National Championship tournaments today, Nov. 8.

The men's team, 12-7-1, will face host Otterbein, 14-1-4, in the opening round in Westerville, Ohio. The men punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Kalamazoo College in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Final.

After a runner-up performance a season ago, the Thunder laid claim to their first MIAA title in program history, earning the league's automatic qualification for the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament.

The women, 15-4-2, will make their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament after receiving an at-large berth.

The Thunder finished runner up in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Soccer Tournament following a 3-1 loss to Hope College in the championship game.

The team will face off with Carnegie Mellon University, 11-5-1, in the opening round of the competition in a match that will be hosted by McDaniel College in College Hill Westminster, Maryland.
