Thelma Esterline is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences. She has long been fascinated by why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, with minors in Psychology and Sociology, before shifting her focus from law to counseling as a way to directly support individuals.

Professor Esterline earned a Master’s degree in Counseling and spent seven years working in community mental health, where she provided therapy to individuals across the lifespan facing a wide range of challenges. She brings this clinical experience into the classroom, helping students connect theory to practice in meaningful ways. In 2020, during the nationwide educator shortage brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, she began teaching with the goal of preparing the next generation of mental health professionals.

Outside of academia, she enjoys spending time with her husband and can often be found at local theaters or sporting events.
