During my doctoral studies at the University of Toronto, I specialized in developing microfluidic diagnostic technology for global health applications. I had the opportunity to work closely with clinicians at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Vietnam, via support from Grand Challenges Canada, to develop microfluidic-based tests for hepatitis B screening. Following my Ph.D., I trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Carbone Cancer Center (University of Wisconsin-Madison). My focus there was on developing organ-on-a-chip models to study cancer development and progression in breast cancer, and head and neck cancer.

I grew up in a university town in southwest Ontario, Canada. Outside teaching, I love to spend time with my family and explore the outdoors. I also love baseball (and hockey) and try to catch games of the Toronto Blue Jays when they are playing nearby.
