Order of Omega
Order of Omega was founded at the University of Miami in 1959 by a group of fraternity men, who felt that the individuals in the Greek community should be recognized for their service to the fraternity system and University. The organization that started at Memphis soon spread to other universities throughout the nation during the following years. In the Spring of 1977, Order of Omega voted to become a co-ed organization. Today, there are over five hundred Order of Omega chapters in the United States and Canada, with approximately ten new chapters being chartered each year.
Purpose:
- Recognize the fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in interfraternity activities
- Inspire other Greek members to strive for similar conspicuous attainment
- Unite the Greek community as a whole
- Bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and Greek student members
- Create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines
