10th Annual Cunningham Writing Contest

Trine University’s Humanities and Communication department is holding their 10th annual Cunningham writing contest.

The contest is open to any full time, undergraduate, main campus students at Trine University. Walter Cunningham, a Tri-State alum from the school of business, and his wife Don Nell sponsor the contest each year. While working for the U.S Department of Labor, he and his team faced challenges writing reports for federal court cases. These writing challenges inspired him to successfully teach himself to write more effectively. Mr. Cunningham says, “It has been my lack of English and writing skills throughout my life that encourages me at this time in life to attempt to help others understand in some small way, the importance of obtaining these skills early.”

Submissions are open in four categories: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and academic writing. One piece can be submitted for each category, except for poetry which can accept up to three poems in one entry. Submissions close January 18th , 2019.

Prizes Per Category:
1st Place: $100
