Trine University had a strong turnout for its Week of Welcome events Aug. 20-27.

“There were a ton of students coming out every day and checking out what we had to offer,” said Lindsey Wise, director of student leadership and service.

The most popular event, as is the case every year, was Bingo for Bucks, with about 930 students in attendance. Students walked away with prizes including a smart TV, a meal plan for a semester, various gift baskets and gift certificates to Angola-area restaurants and businesses.

New this year was Zorb 360, which drew about 275 students to battle or race inside large inflatable balls, or face off in the Bongo Ball arena.

“We had a lot of positive feedback about Zorb 360, and students are looking forward to it coming back,” Wise said.

Other events included Free Movie Monday, with about 200 students attending at the Brokaw Theatre in downtown Angola; Laser Tag, with 175 students taking part on the lawn of the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center; the Friday Night Movie on the Green, with 134 students viewing “Now You See It 2” and enjoying Auntie Annie’s pretzels; and about 100 students taking part in College Night at Angola Bowl.

The Campus Carnival included 70 tables staffed by local businesses and student organizations, along with inflatables, ice cream and airbrush tattoos.
