Thunder football's Mark Wilson earns title

January 08, 2016

JAN. 8 -- Trine's Mark Wilson has been voted HERO Sports Offensive LEGEND of the Year, the organization announced today.

Wilson (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) totaled more than 4,000 votes to earn the selection from among 11 nominees. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee had to have been named a HERO Sports "HERO of the Week." Wilson previously earned that honor for his school record 327-yard performance in a 51-45 victory over no. 22 Albion. The sophomore totaled five touchdowns on 46 carries in his first career start to lead the Thunder to the victory.

Wilson's record-breaking performance against Albion earned him recognition on the D3Football.com Team of the Week. He was also named MIAA Player of the Week for his efforts.

The award caps off a season that saw Wilson earn All-MIAA Second Team honors. The sophomore seized the starting running back role in the seventh week of the season and never looked back, racking up 839 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry.

Trine concluded the season with a 6-4 overall record and 4-2 mark in MIAA play. The Thunder produced a D3Football.com All-North Region performer for the second-straight season and had 10 players named to the All-MIAA teams.
