Florida Golf Classic raises more than $37,000 for Trine scholarships

LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. — A record amount was raised for Trine University scholarships during the ninth annual Scholarship Golf Classic and Alumni Reception, held Thursday, Jan. 25, at The Resort at Longboat Key Club in Longboat Key, Florida.

A total of $37,400 was raised with 12 teams of alumni and friends participating in the event, which supports the Trine Fund for student scholarships.

“The annual Scholarship Golf Classic offers not only the opportunity for alumni and friends of the university to enjoy camaraderie and a beautiful setting for golf, but the chance to support worthy students,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine University president. “With more than $25 million of institutional aid offered each year, scholarships are a vital part of keeping a Trine education affordable.”

The winners were the Members Club of Marco team with a score of 59, 13 under par. Members were Keith Turner ’76, Stuart Wiseley ’09, Phil Ott and Todd Evans.

Special events winners were:

Longest drive: Rick Young, 343 yards

Longest putt: Allen Hersel, 10 feet, 11 inches

Closest to the pin: Steve LaHood ’70, 9 inches

The 10th annual Scholarship Golf Classic will take place in January 2018 in Longboat Key.
