Faculty, staff, alumni and friends of Trine University contributed nearly $80,000 toward student scholarships, enhanced classroom experiences and state-of-the-art facilities as part of efforts during Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27.
A total of 217 supporters contributed $79,152 over the course of the day.
“We are grateful for each gift contributed to provide deserving students with a quality, affordable private education,” said Steven Nicolet, director of annual giving. “Trine University would not be the amazing institution it is without the support of our community of alumni, employees and friends.”
Generous matching gifts assisted in the fundraising, doubling the first $10,000 donated as well as all gifts toward Books and Beyond Scholarships. Annual scholarships and gifts by Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) were matched at a 2:1 ratio.
Giving Tuesday, held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, has been celebrated since 2012. Intended to counter more commercial post-Thanksgiving events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday seeks to celebrate and encourage charitable giving internationally at the beginning of the holiday season.
Members of the public are invited to join Trine University faculty, staff and students in exploring, discussing and playing board and video games during the annual Art of Games event on Nov. 18.
Trine University Theatre will present "Clue," based on the popular board game and the cult classic film, on the Ryan Concert Hall stage of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, with additional performances at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Trine University has been recognized by a national education services company for its commitment to students’ mental health and well-being.
