January 29, 2020

LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. — Alumni and friends of Trine University contributed a record amount toward student scholarships during the 12th annual Scholarship Golf Classic and Alumni Reception, held Jan. 23 at the Resort at Longboat Key Club in Longboat Key, Florida.

The event raised more than $38,000 for the Trine Fund for student scholarships. Fifty-six golfers on 14 teams participated in the golf outing.

“With 98 percent of Trine students receiving financial aid, support through events like the Scholarship Golf Classic and the upcoming Scholarship Gala are critical to keeping a Trine education affordable,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine University president. “We appreciate the alumni and friends who took the time to support Trine students while enjoying a fun day in a beautiful setting for golf, and are grateful for everyone who contributes toward a Trine education for worthy students.”

The winning team included Chuck Nedele, Ken Wilson, and Mark and Haden Cowen. The second place team included 1976 alumnus Keith Turner, 2009 alumnus Stuart Wisely, Todd Evans and Phil Ott.

Trine University’s annual Scholarship Gala, coming Feb. 8 and featuring basketball legend Isiah Thomas, will provide another opportunity to support student scholarships. More information about that event is available at trine.edu/gala.

The 13th annual Scholarship Golf Classic is planned for January 2021 in Longboat Key.
