A Trine University student received a $750 scholarship from the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association.

Kayla Kay, a criminal justice and psychology major from Columbia City, was one of about 40 students who received scholarships.

The organization awards scholarships each year to members or dependents who are full-time students majoring in a law enforcement field at an Indiana college or university.

In addition to applying for the scholarship and receiving a letter of recommendation, Kay had to write an essay about her course of college study, how she reached her decision, what she expects to gain from college, and her personal goals and ambitions.

After graduation, she hopes to become an Indiana State Trooper.
