Trine civil engineers honored at annual conference

CARMEL, Ind. — Five Trine University civil engineering students were honored at the
annual conference for the Indiana Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers,
held April 18 in Carmel, Indiana.

Erin Haase of Napoleon, Ohio, and Sophie Sloneker of Monroe, Ohio, won a student project
presentation competition sponsored by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Branch of the
ASCE.
The competition was open to all ASCE student chapters in the Indiana Section, including
schools like Valparaiso, Evansville, Notre Dame, and Rose Hulman. Most students presented
their capstone projects, and entries were judged on their presentation skills and
the ability to answer questions.
The judges praised the Trine team for citing the design standards used throughout
their presentation.
Each student was awarded $200, and the university received a plaque that travels to
the winning school each year.

Sheets of Fort Wayne, Indiana, were recognized for their contributions and dedication
to ASCE through their leadership with the Trine’s student chapter. Each student received
an award and $100.
