SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A charter school authorized by Education One, Trine University’s charter school authorizer, will receive a grant from the Indiana
Department of Education (IDOE).
Career Academy Middle School in South Bend, Indiana, was recently named a recipient
of a School Improvement Grant from the state. It was one of two South Bend-area schools
to receive the grant.
Authorized under section 1003(g) of No Child Left Behind, the grants are awarded on
a competitive basis to schools that serve a high percentage of low-income families
and have demonstrated a need for additional resources.
The schools could receive up to $3.3 million through the grant. The money will be
split into a one-year planning phase, followed by a three-year implementation phase.
Career Academy Middle School began the planning phase after a kickoff meeting with
IDOE on Oct. 4. An Educational Transformation Team will begin meeting soon to guide
the process of school improvement and transformation, and to oversee implementation
of the grant.
