PA announcer, broadcaster Shovlin joins Trine podcast

Jim ShovlinThe newest episode of Trine University’s Center for Sports Studies podcast welcomes Jim Shovlin, veteran public address announcer and host of the Talkin’ Sports show on 1380-AM The Fan in Fort Wayne.

A Fort Wayne native, Shovlin has announced high school, college and professional sports in the city and hosted his own radio sports talk show for the past 15 years.

In the podcast, Shovlin shares how making funny character sounds during a baseball game landed him his first radio gig. He also talks about the amount of preparation that goes into sports PA announcing and shares valuable advice on how to develop an announcing voice by speaking from the chest.   

Produced through the Trine Broadcasting Network, the Trine Center for Sports Studies podcast focuses on the business side of sports, including interviews with sports professionals and current research in sports studies. Hosted by Center for Sports Studies director Brandon Podgorski, the podcast is available at css.transistor.fm, on platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and Stitcher, and on YouTube.
