Andrea Davenport, an English education major from Downers Grove, Illinois, is the
Distinguished Student for 2023 from Trine University’s Franks School of Education.
Davenport was recognized with other Distinguished Students during the university’s
honors ceremony on Thursday, May 4.
Davenport graduated summa cum laude. She earned a 3.977 grade point average and Google
Educator Level 1 certification.
She is the first education major at Trine to earn licenses in both English and mathematics.
She completed her student teaching in Coldwater, Michigan, to work with students who
represent diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
She was a member of Trine’s High Voltage Dance Team for four years, serving as captain
for one year. She was co-editor-in-chief of The Writer’s Block literary journal for
two years, Gender and Sexuality Alliance Network member for two years, Athletes Connected
member for two years and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority member for one year. She e served
as a resident assistant, tutored math for two years, and served as an instructor for
Kids Sciences Labs, in the YMCA, and in Action Gymnastics.
“With the help of my fellow English education majors and Franks School of Education
faculty, I truly discovered the importance of collaboration and empathy in our profession,”
she said. “I would not have been successful without them.”
