StreitAaron Streit, a biomedical engineering major from New Paris, Indiana, is the Distinguished Student for 2023 from Trine University’s Allen School of Engineering and Computing.

Streit was recognized with other Distinguished Students during the university’s honors ceremony on Thursday, May 4.

Streit graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering degree. He will continue his studies in the Ph.D. in biomedical sciences program at the University of Virginia.

Streit maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average while participating on the varsity tennis team, serving as its captain and earning second team All-MIAA honors in 2022. He also was an active member of the Alpha Eta Mu Beta Honor Society, as well as the Biomedical Engineering Society, and he was selected and served as an Ehinger Fellow.

He worked as a research assistant under a grant from the Indiana Space Grant Consortium in which he modelled and tested space environmental factors, most notably hypoxia, on the lymphatic system to help characterize immune dysregulation in space.

Last summer, he participated in a prestigious Research Experience for Undergraduates with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He served as a researcher at the National Cancer Institute in the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology.

In accepting the honor, Streit said his education and experiences at Trine helped him move beyond his comfort zone.

“I believe every person here has unique abilities and talents that can drive real change,” he said. “Whatever your passion is, I encourage you to find areas where you can cross into the growth zone and leave a positive impact.”
