Trine’s Alpha Sigma Tau chapter wins three national awards

INDIANAPOLIS — Alpha Sigma Tau’s Epsilon Kappa Chapter at Trine University recently
was recognized by the National Organization for demonstrating excellence within the
2022-2024 biennium.
Awards were announced at Alpha Sigma Tau’s 45th National Convention in Portsmouth/Norfolk,
Virginia, June 20-23.
The Epsilon Kappa Chapter was recognized with the Health and Safety Excellence Award,
Innovation Excellence Award and the Sisterhood Excellence Award.
The Health and Safety Excellence Award is presented to chapters exhibiting an outstanding
commitment to risk prevention, education and management.
The Innovation Excellence Award is presented to chapters demonstrating innovative
solutions to chapter or Panhellenic opportunities or challenges and successfully executing
initiatives for positive outcomes or improvement.
The Sisterhood Excellence Award is presented to chapters successfully cultivating
healthy interpersonal relationships between members.
“When our chapter was called up for three different National awards, I felt such pure
happiness,” said Jama Cottengim, chapter president and an exercise science/pre-physical
therapy major at Trine. “It felt amazing to see all of the hard work pay off! I was
and am so proud to represent this amazing organization! The women I get to work with
truly make everything worth it. I cannot wait to see what we do in the next two years
when Convention comes around again!”
Besides Cottengim, Vice President of Operations Kaci McComis, an English education
major, Vice President of Growth Sam Meis, an exercise science/pre-physical therapy
major, and Vice President of Organization Development Sarah Ryan, a civil engineering
major, were present to accept the award. Chapter Advisor Rachel Detlev and Member
Development Advisor Nicholle Potter Prosbt, both Epsilon Kappa Chapter alumnae, were
also in attendance.
In addition, Detlev won the Carrie W. Staehle Award, which honors initiated Chapter
Advisory Board members for exceptional service to their chapters and to the Sorority.
Probst was elected to serve on the 2024-2026 National Council as a vice president.
The National Council leads the Sorority in developing and meeting strategic initiatives.
It consists of one president and five vice presidents, one of whom must be a collegian
at the time of election.
In a release, the Alpha Sigma Tau National Council congratulates the Epsilon Kappa
Chapter for their outstanding hard work, perseverance and commitment to the Sorority
and their community.

About the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority
The Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau was established at Trine University in
2009. Since then, almost 175 women have been initiated into the Epsilon Kappa Chapter
of Alpha Sigma Tau. Today, the chapter continues to provide women at Trine University
with a community of belonging, personal and professional development opportunities,
and an outlet to contribute to the local Angola community.
Trine University and Naval Surface Warfare Center - Crane Division (NWSC Crane) invite the public to the Artificial Intelligence Maritime Maneuver Indiana Collegiate Challenge (AIMM ICC) this Friday and Saturday.
Trine University’s Overwatch esports team has qualified for the first ECAC National Founders Invitational, which will be held May 15-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
