Trine University mourns loss of student Ben Kurtzweg

Ben KurtzwegThe Trine University community is mourning the tragic loss of student Ben Kurtzweg, who passed away Sept. 18, 2024.

Ben, a junior from Fort Wayne, Indiana, majoring in actuarial science died from injuries sustained in an accident on Friday, Sept. 6. He was a Kappa Sigma brother and an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Angola.

“It is unspeakably tragic when someone so young passes away,” said Earl D. Brooks, Ph.D., Trine University president. “Our hearts go out to Ben’s family, to the Kappa Sigma brothers and to everyone here on Trine’s campus who knew and cared for Ben. We grieve with you and our thoughts and prayers go out to each one who was impacted, but especially to Ben’s family.”

Trine University students Isaac Braun, a senior chemical engineering major from Portland, Indiana, and Ryan Sederstrom, a junior electrical engineering major from Cedar Lake, Indiana, placed 15th in the collegiate pairs tournament at the North American Bridge Championships.
