INDIANAPOLIS — Jill Noyes, director of library and information services at Trine University,
was recognized with the Special Recognition of PALSave Support award from the Private
Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) during the organization’s biennial All-Staff
Meeting on Aug. 2 at Marian University.
This award recognizes the support team and task force members, project managers and
consultants who contributed to making the Lilly Endowment-funded PALSave: PALNI Affordable
Learning Program a success by achieving $2.3 million in overall savings and impacting
37,233 students throughout the state.
PALSave supports student success and retention by fostering the use of Open Educational
Resources (OER), teaching, learning and research resources that are available freely
and publicly.
According to PALNI, the program provides collaborative resources and a framework for
OER awareness, education and engagement. It also funds and supports faculty adoption
of affordable learning.
“PALSave’s mission is to make education more affordable and help professors provide
immediate access to their resources, which I think is important for student learning,”
said Noyes. “All of us who were recognized have been actively working on projects
that lead to direct publication sometime in this last year. It was really thoughtful
for PALNI to acknowledge how much work it is for the authors and the managers to bring
these textbooks to the students.”
Twenty-five PALNI and university officials received the Special Recognition of PALSave
Support award this year.
Nominated by peers
PALNI also presented awards for Outstanding Service, Hall of Fame, Heart of PALNI,
Outstanding Achievement Award for Leadership in Deep Collaboration, Leadership in
External Collaboration, and the Lifetime Visionary Award for Leadership in Deep Collaboration.
This year’s award recipients were nominated by their peers and represent a variety
of organizations, roles and responsibilities within the consortium. Awards were given
in categories that support PALNI’s mission of providing high-quality support for student
learning and effective teaching through shared expertise, services, resources and
partnerships.
“Each person in PALNI holds a great deal of knowledge and expertise within their respective
role, which is contributed back to the collaboration in many ways," said Kirsten Leonard,
PALNI executive director. “The PALNI Awards were created to recognize what we do together.
Our ability to function effectively only works because of the people who contribute
their time and expertise to our mission. Every person in PALNI is important and provides
something we need to be successful. These awards are one way we recognize those efforts
in deep collaboration.”
Now in its 31st year, PALNI is a nonprofit organization supporting collaboration for
library and information services for 24 private colleges, universities, and seminaries
throughout Indiana. The PALNI community comprises more than 150 employees from those
libraries, serving approximately 47,500 students and faculty statewide.

costs while providing more effective library services. More recently, PALNI has adopted
a model of deep collaboration that pools resources and people as a tool to expand
services while containing costs. Simultaneously, PALNI is expanding collaboration
within its institutions and with external library partners to address challenges and
