Trine University has received a $100,000 contribution from Honda toward its new John
and Mary Pellegrino Student Design and Training Center (Pellegrino Center).
“We’re extremely grateful for Honda’s generous support of the Pellegrino Student Design
and Training Center and Trine University’s efforts to equip our graduates with leading-edge
skills and experience,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine University president.
“This investment by Honda will pay dividends for many years to come. Through the opportunities
offered at this new facility, Trine University students will gain experiences that
will enhance their value to future employers and strengthen the manufacturing industry
as a whole.”
The funds will be used to purchase essential equipment that will support advanced
manufacturing and Industry 4.0 training in the new building, including robotics, programmable
logic controllers, industrial automation controls, fluid power systems and additive
manufacturing equipment.
The equipment will provide students with hands-on experience using tools that are
relevant and applicable in the advanced manufacturing industry, while also exposing
them to new technologies that are part of Industry 4.0.
“Honda is proud to support Trine University’s efforts to advance modern manufacturing
education,” said Bobbie Trittschuh, charitable giving manager, American Honda. “By
empowering the next generation of engineers and innovators, we’re helping to build
a smarter, more sustainable future for the industry.”
Construction is underway on the $20 million, 22,000-square-feet John and Mary Pellegrino
Student Design Center, which will include a new state-of-the-art robotics lab, an
aeronautics lab and a powertrain lab, among others.
More than 8,000 square feet of project fabrication space will allow the university
to accommodate more and larger projects completed by senior teams in the Allen School
of Engineering and Computing.
In addition to the building cost, the Pellegrino Center will include $1.5 million
worth of design and fabrication equipment that will allow the university to meet the
needs of industry partners as well as student teams.
The building is expected to be completed by fall 2026.
