Amanda Malefyt, Ph.D., professor in the McKetta Department of Chemical and Bioprocess
Engineering at Trine University, has been elected to serve as a director within the
Education Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), beginning
her four-year term this month.
This leadership position recognizes Dr. Malefyt’s involvement within chemical engineering
education, including her commitment to innovative teaching strategies, engineering
pedagogy and outreach. Previously, she served a one-year term as the liaison between
the Education Division and AIChE’s K-12 Committee, a role she will continue in alongside
her new appointment.
“I am honored to have been selected by my peers in the chemical engineering education
community to continue serving on the board in this new capacity,” Dr. Malefyt said.
“This role allows me to share innovative teaching strategies we implement at Trine
with educators nationwide, while also collaborating with passionate faculty to develop
new educators and improve our ability to excite and equip students for successful
careers in chemical engineering.”
The Education Division of AIChE serves as a hub for members interested in the advancement
of chemical engineering pedagogy, curriculum development, educational research and
outreach. Its mission is to support and promote excellence in chemical engineering
education through programming, collaboration, recognition, and diversity.
As one of four directors, Dr. Malefyt will help guide the division’s initiatives,
including long-term planning, programming for national meetings and coordination with
AIChE’s broader goals. Her expertise in undergraduate teaching and K-12 outreach aligns
with the division’s commitment to preparing the next generation of engineers and educators.
