Trine collecting food for annual Crush Hunger effort

October 26, 2026

Bins overflowing with canned and boxed foodTrine University is collecting food through Nov. 6 for Community Harvest Food Bank’s 12th annual “U Can Crush Hunger” campaign.

The campaign is a competitive food and fundraising drive between area schools that helps the organization provide meals to thousands of northeast Indiana families during the holidays while supporting food pantries on local college campuses for students struggling with food insecurity.

“This initiative is a natural fit for our campus community,” said John Rodriguez, director of student leadership and service at Trine. “By harnessing the leadership of our student organizations and the compassion of our faculty and staff, we are confident that we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against food insecurity throughout Northeast Indiana alongside our fellow participating colleges and universities.”

“We are proud to do our part in supporting food-insecure families in Steuben County and look forward to continuing our involvement in this important initiative for years to come.”

Food collection bins are located on Trine’s Angola campus near the Storm’s-A-Brewing coffee shop, the Fabiani Theatre in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center and at the north entrance to Best Hall of Science.

Monetary donations also count toward the total, with every dollar donated toward the campaign providing four pounds of food.

In addition to Trine, participating schools are Huntington University, Indiana Institute of Technology, Indiana University Fort Wayne, Ivy Tech Community College, Manchester University, Purdue University Fort Wayne and the University of Saint Francis.

The schools compete for a traveling trophy. Trine University won the competition in 2023.

Community Harvest Food Bank says its goal this year is to raise 125,000 pounds of food.
