KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Trine University’s Overwatch esports team went undefeated in the
Match Point Invitational at Western Michigan University on Saturday, besting the home
team as well as teams from Central Michigan University, Ferris State University and
the University of Michigan-Flint.
Trine was invited to participate in the in-person tournament this year because its
Overwatch team has performed so well over the past seasons.
The team was 12-0, winning three times against each of the other schools.
“Having such a dominant performance against Division I and II schools further reinforces
that, thanks to the support of our administration and the dedication of our students,
Trine University is a premier program in esports,” said Jeremy Goossens, director
of esports at Trine.
Competing for Trine were Hudson Kelly, a computer science and information technology
major from LaGrange, Indiana; Logan Gault, a computer engineering major from Indianapolis;
Elton Langley, a computer science and information technology major from Indianapolis; Brockstan
Tschannen, an extended reality major from Angola, Indiana; A.J. Smith, a computer
engineering major from Angola, Indiana; and Jonah Kyle, a computer science and information
technology major from Valparaiso, Indiana.
Western Michigan University finished second and the University of Michigan–Flint finished
third.
