‘Amazing experience’: Trine’s BSOL prepared Sandra Porter to lead, mentor others

June 01, 2026

Sandra PorterSandra Porter enjoys mentoring and training new team members.

Trine University’s Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership (BSOL) program provided the skills to help Sandra and those she leads achieve their goals.

Sandra, who was honored with the College of Graduate and Professional Studies Excellence in Leadership & Management Award for the Class of 2026, chose Trine for the strength of its BSOL program and its reputation for student success, as well as the flexibility of learning in an asynchronous environment.

She said the BSOL program has been an “amazing experience.”

“The course content is relevant and the professors are knowledgeable, approachable and accessible,” she said. “The workload is heavy with accelerated courses, but not overwhelming, even with working full-time. The support staff at Trine are always kind and helpful, making the overall experience of earning a degree at Trine a worthwhile experience.”

Even though the program was online and asynchronous, she was able to connect with several classmates who had the same courses.

“Getting to know your classmates and understanding their viewpoints led to some amazing interactions,” she said.

She said the program has added to her confidence in herself as a leader.

“The most valuable lessons were the opportunity to build a solid foundation in leadership strengths, skills and styles, and the realization that I possess the skills and characteristics necessary to lead the way forward,” she said.

She has started classes in Trine’s Lou Holtz Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and is working toward a leadership role within her organization.
