Trine University May 2021 Commencement
Trine University is excited to hold an in-person Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. May 8 to honor the Classes of 2020 and 2021. Plans for the ceremony may be modified due to state and local health guidelines or the weather forecast. Please check this page frequently for the latest updated information.
May 6 - Class of 2021 Honors Day Program, 4:30 p.m.
May 7 - Commencement practice, 4:30 p.m. It is required for the Class of 2021 and encouraged for the Class of 2020; Senior Celebration, 6-8 p.m., MTI Center (Class of 2021)
May 8 - Commencement, 10 a.m.
May 10 - Grades due for spring graduates
May 12 - Diplomas for main campus undergraduates may be picked up, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. in Forman Hall
The bookstore in the University Center will be open the following times:
Thursday May 6 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday May 7 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Commencement will be held at the ARC (Athletic and Recreation Center), with doors opening for guest seating at 9am.
Graduating seniors should plan to arrive at 9 a.m.
On Commencement day, all drivers must enter campus using South Darling Street. Graduates will be directed to designated parking. Guests will be directed to disability-accessible parking or general parking areas. Click here for a campus map. Questions about parking should be referred to Campus Operations at 260-665-4155.
Practice will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 7. The best way for the event to run smoothly is for everyone to know what is expected, so attendance at practice is important. It is required for the Class of 2021 and encouraged for the Class of 2020.
Items adorning the gown are limited to those awarded at Honors Day, so remember to bring the honor cords and medallions you received.
Caps and gowns are navy. If you have not yet purchased your cap and gown, you need to do so immediately. Online orders may be placed at https://www.bkstr.com/trinestore/shop/graduation or you may call the bookstore at 260-665-4153. The charge for the cap, gown, and tassel for undergraduate students is $44 plus tax. The charge for graduate students is $75 plus tax, which includes the cap, gown, tassel, and hood. They are yours to keep. Diploma frames and other Trine items are also available for purchase at the bookstore.
If you pre-ordered your cap and gown at Senior Salute or online, they are ready to be picked up at the Trine University Bookstore. Bookstore hours are Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have questions regarding your order, please contact the bookstore at 260-665-4153.
Regalia distribution for DPT students is being coordinated by the College of Health Professions. Contact Annie Joslin if you have questions or need to make arrangements.
Eric Holcomb, 51st governor of the state of Indiana, will deliver the address at Trine University’s Commencement.
Trine University’s 2021 Commencement will recognize undergraduate students who completed/will complete their degrees between December 2019 and December 2021. Graduate students who completed/will complete their degrees between August 2019 and May 2021 will be recognized.
Members of the Class of 2020 who plan to participate are asked to use this link to register.
Names of graduates will be read only for those present and participating in Commencement.
Graduate hooding photos will be taken prior to the Commencement Ceremony, beginning at 8:15 a.m. in Hershey Hall. Graduate students should bring their hoods to the photo session. Hoods will be worn during the Commencement Ceremony.
Face coverings will be required during the Commencement ceremony, and attendees will be asked to remain socially distant from those who are not part of their group.
Our current planning, based on social distancing guidelines, allows for two guest tickets per graduate who is participating in Commencement. A live video stream will be offered at trine.edu/classof2021 for those who are unable to attend the physical event.
The university will not distribute extra tickets.
Graduates who RSVP will receive QR codes via email April 20-22 to distribute to guests.
Trine University has contracted GradImages to take individual pictures of graduates. Proofs will be sent to each graduate, with no obligation to buy.

Spring grades will be posted on May 10.
If you need copies of your transcript, electronic ordering is available at trine.edu/transcripts. There is a $5 charge for a transcript.
Fall ’20 graduates: You should have received your diploma. If you have not received it, check with the Office of the Registrar at 260-665-4239.
Spring ’21 Main Campus graduates: Main Campus students may pick up diplomas on Wednesday, May 12, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Forman Hall. Diplomas that are not picked up will be mailed to an address specified by the graduate.
Summer and Fall ’21 graduates: You will receive your diploma after you have completed your final semester.
All students should watch their Trine email during their final semester for a request to confirm a diploma mailing address.
The Class of 2021 Honors Day program will be held Thursday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics, Inc. Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC). If you are requested to attend, you will receive information from the Registrar’s Office. Academic, honor society and special awards will be presented. Graduates should dress in professional business attire. Students should arrive by 4 p.m. to line up for the Honors Day processional. Families of honorees may attend.

For undergraduate students, Latin Honors will be printed in the Commencement program based on your current GPA. A cumulative GPA is required as outlined below. In addition, a minimum of 40 Trine credit hours must be earned by the end of the spring semester.
- Cum Laude: 3.500-3.749
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.750-3.949
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.950-4.000
Undergraduate students who meet the GPA criteria listed above and have earned between 30 and 39 Trine hours will be recognized for academic honors. If your academic status changes from that printed in the program, your diploma and transcript will be printed with the correct recognition.
