It’s officially Fall with Winter fast approaching, and the weather is starting to get chilly outside. Maybe curl up on a couch with some hot cocoa, enjoy being inside, and get ready for the holiday seasons. Speaking of holidays, Day of the Dead is coming up on November 2nd, just around the corner, and Spanish professor Ana Bowman is creating a podcast about some great Spanish painters and their writings!

Day of the Dead is a Spanish holiday that celebrates the deceased loved ones of a family and honors them with great pride. Professor Bowman’s podcast will be talking about two famous Spanish painters and writers, and will talk a little bit about their work, and what it means. The two Spanish artists will be Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera.

Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter is one of the most important twentieth-century female artists in the world,” Professor Bowman said, “Diego Rivera, a Mexican painter is one of the most important twentieth-century male artists in the world. Although their controversial marriage was filled with passion and scandal, their legacy will live on forever.”

The podcast will last about 20-30 minutes and will go into about these artist’s lives and give us some information on their works, as well as learning about contemporary Mexican art and culture. Stay tuned to see it posted!

In honor of Day of the Dead, an altar will be placed at Wells Gallery to celebrate the lives of these artists, and will be displayed on Monday, November 2nd. So, check it out!
