Required education:
“A PhD in English with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition/Writing, Writing Studies,
or Technical Writing is preferred; however candidates with a PhD in English and experience
teaching writing will also be considered. We will also consider PhD candidates who are ABD and will complete their programs
by June 2018. The successful candidate will demonstrate (1) excellence and innovation
in teaching, (2) ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across campus, and
(3) passion for advising and mentoring students.
Summary:
The Department of Humanities and Communication of Trine University invites applications
for a full-time, position beginning January 2018. Review of applications will begin
early October for interviews. Current PhD candidates who are ABD and will complete
their programs by June 2018 are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Humanities and Communication (HAC) is one of the most active departments on campus. We offer Bachelor of Art degrees with majors in Communication and English as well as offering minors in Communication and English. HAC faculty members direct the Overlooked Film Festival, the Humanities Symposia, the Walter Cunningham Writing Contest, and the Writing Center. In addition, members of our department sit on the Humanities Institute board, advise student groups such as Drama Club and SPEAK (our student environmental protection organization), and serve on a variety of university committees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The department is seeking a candidate that can teach courses in our undergraduate
English program. Preferred candidates will have experience teaching writing in variety
of forms such as first-year composition, technical writing, basic writing, new media
writing, and advanced composition. Expertise in one or more of the following areas
is preferred: composition theory and pedagogy, research methods, digital humanities,
writing assessment, technical or professional writing, new media writing, or cultural
rhetorics. This a full-time faculty position with a 4-4 load and departmental and
university service requirements.
