Summary

Trine University invites applications for the position of Director for the newly created Montessori Teacher Education program in the Franks School of Education.

Trine University is seeking an experienced Montessori candidate with vision, academic and professional leadership skills and passion to establish a new AMS/MACTE Montessori Teacher Education program.  Candidates should demonstrate primary through secondary Montessori philosophy knowledge as well as strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collegiality, trust, and effectiveness among faculty, staff, students, stakeholders, and alumni.

The position begins August 2020.

Essential Responsibilities

As Program Director

  • Develop the program’s strategic vision and long-range plan
  • Develop guiding principles and implement assessment strategies to uphold excellence as it pertains to Montessori philosophy
  • Lead undergraduate program and in-service teacher training curriculum design that aligns with Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) and American Montessori Society (AMS) affiliation
  • Lead efforts to achieve and maintain accreditation through MACTE and AMS in coordination with the School of Education Dean
  • Organize, recruit, and evaluate the effectiveness of summer teacher training programs
  • Prepare and manage annual program budget
  • Coordinate and lead faculty recruitment efforts and recommend the appointment of academic and clinical personnel
  • Lead Montessori-related outcome assessment, student achievement, and professional development for faculty and staff
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and placement in coordination with the Office of Admission
  • Establish collaborative relationships, including sites for clinical experiences
  • Support alumni relations, marketing, and public relations in coordination with the Office of Alumni and Development
  • Assist with program-specific grant proposals and administer grant funds in coordination with the Office of Alumni and Development
  • Explore the creation of graduate-level course credit aligned with summer teacher training in coordination with the School of Education Dean
  • Additional duties and assignments as prescribed by the School of Education Dean and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs

As Faculty

  • Teach, prepare course material, and assess two undergraduate Montessori Education courses per fall and spring semesters
  • Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, School of Education matters, and academic issues
  • Advise students on academic and career issues

 Education / Experience 

  • Masters degree in education, Montessori, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Preference may be given to those who may apply with a Ph.D. in an education-related field from an accredited institution
  • MACTE accredited and AMS- and/or AMI-affiliated Montessori credentials
  • Minimum of five years experience in an AMS-accredited school(s) with multiple developmental level classrooms 
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or in-service teachers using Montessori-aligned curriculum
  • Proven leadership and management experience in an educational setting, preferably in a Montessori institution(s)
