Summary
The Institutional Researcher and Reporter for Trine University serves as a key analytical resource and advisor for data-driven decision-making. This position collects, analyzes, interprets, and reports institutional data to support strategic planning, accreditation, policy development, and continuous improvement efforts across the university. The role requires professional judgment in identifying trends, interpreting results, and making recommendations that directly impact institutional strategy and operations. The Institutional Researcher ensures data integrity, advises leadership on the implications of data trends, and helps shape institutional policies based on evidence and analysis. In addition, this position provides support to the Office for Academic Affairs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct institutional data analyses to identify emerging trends and inform executive decision-making related to enrollment management, academic program development, and student success initiatives.
- Partner with university leadership to develop data-informed recommendations that support strategic planning, academic program evaluation, retention, and resource allocation.
- Lead the design, validation, and improvement of data collection processes to ensure accuracy and compliance across federal, state, and accrediting bodies.
- Interpret and communicate findings from institutional research to senior leadership through reports and dashboards that guide policy and operational decisions.
- Manage and analyze data for IPEDS, determining the most accurate and strategic representation of institutional performance.
- Manage and analyze data for various reports and surveys, including:
- ICI census
- Surveys for non-federal reporting, including Common Data Set
- Open Door Survey
- MIAA Honor Roll reporting
- NCAA graduation rate survey
- Monthly National Student Clearinghouse submissions
- Reports for Independent Colleges of Indiana.
- Greek GPA rankings each semester, with data entry assistance from Student Services
- SARA and NC-SARA data
- Monthly accepts analysis
- S. News & World Report
- Use advanced data tools (e.g., Infomaker, Jenzabar, Excel, PEA/Forvis margin analysis software) to create customized queries, evaluate data integrity, and develop predictive models.
- Evaluate internal and external reporting requests to determine data feasibility, relevance, and strategic value; prioritize and approve requests accordingly.
- Develop metrics and performance indicators that assess institutional effectiveness and progress toward university goals, including responsibility for internal Official Enrollment Reports each semester.
- Provide data analysis and interpretation for accreditation (HLC) and assessment reporting, including identifying areas for institutional improvement and recommending corrective actions.
- Advise senior administrators on key data insights to guide decision-making in academic affairs, resource planning, and compliance.
- Independently design and implement institutional surveys; interpret results and recommend policy or practice changes based on findings.
- Maintain current knowledge of higher education data trends, benchmarking methodologies, and reporting standards to ensure institutional competitiveness and compliance.
- Oversee course catalog and Academic Program Inventory updates, ensuring accuracy and alignment with institutional policies.
- Collaborate with departments to align data strategies with institutional goals and ensure consistent, effective data use across units.
- Perform other analytical or strategic duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience in institutional research, data analytics, or higher education administration preferred.
- Experience interpreting data for executive decision-making or policy development strongly preferred.
- Prior Registrar or institutional reporting experience is advantageous.
