Summary

The Senior Development Director/Major Gifts Officer shall formulate, implement and oversee strategic fundraising plans designed to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift suspects, prospects, current donors and past donors for the purpose of providing financial support for the priorities of the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, administer, evaluate and monitor an aggressive major gift fund raising program in an assigned geographical area and/or by individuals/businesses/corporations, with the minimum of $10,000 being used as the criteria to be considered as a major gift prospect.
  • Conduct appropriate fund raising activities in support of the budget and programs focused in individual donor upgrading, cultivation and solicitation.
  • Cultivate present donors and develop new income sources for present and long term support.
  • Ensure that all requests for information and clarification from donors and potential donors are responded to in accurate, timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain donor/prospect record keeping system ensuring that accurate and complete records of information and activity are prepared and maintained in JenzabarEX.
  • Requires flexible scheduling, significant time away from the office to meet with prospective donors whether local, regional or national as assigned, periodic weekend and evening assignments, as well as activities and other duties as assigned by the President or the Vice President Development.
  • Other duties that are assigned.     

Education and/or Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred, CFRE certification preferred
  • Five to seven years successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising preferably in higher education
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the university
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with development/major gifts experience, particularly with a private college or university.
