ANGOLA, Ind. – More than 300 Trine University students turned out to meet the more than 100 recruiters from regional businesses at the Fifth Annual Trine University Career & Internship Fair on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Trine.
"It was extremely well attended and the employers are really happy with the quality and quantity of the candidates," said Linda Bateman, director of Trine's Career Services. "It was the most diverse fair we've had in terms of employers recruiting students from a variety of majors."
Recruiters had both full-time positions and internships to fill. One recruiter commented, "It was the most well organized career fair I've attended. We love the quality of Trine students."
Recruiters had both full-time positions and internships to fill. One recruiter said she was glad to learn that students with whom she spoke are willing to relocate, because her company has openings in other states. Responders to the Job Outlook 2013 survey reported they plan to hire 13 percent more new college graduates in 2012-13 than they did in 2011-12. The survey was conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
"Many of the employers said they plan to contact the top candidates," Bateman said, noting that some candidates were interviewed during and after the event.
Terry Johnson, Career Fair manager, organized the fair together with Career Services staff and volunteers. To prepare students for the event, Career Services offered sessions on resume writing and how to work a career fair. Students attending the fair in the morning were seen in suits, ties and dress attire, most carrying pad folios with a stash of resumes.
In addition to the 100 recruiters, there were also representatives from 53 organizations. Positive feedback was received from the employers and organizations, and next year the fair will likely expand, Bateman said, adding that she has been contacted by additional employers who would like to participate.
The fair took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center.
Career Services works with more than 2,100 employers to help Trine students secure employment.
