Trine University hosts LaPorte mayor in women’s initiative

April 02, 2015

Students enjoyed a presentation from Mayor Blair Milo as part of a new initiative on campus titled “Power of the Purse.”

Milo spoke to the audience about challenges women face professionally, personally and economically and how women can support each other as they reach toward their goals.

A number of door prizes were raffled during the March 31 presentation, ranging from Vera Bradley, Kate Spade and Coach merchandise to Trine gear and Bath & Body Works products.

Milo was 28 when she was elected mayor of LaPorte, Ind., in November 2011. She is also a lieutenant commander with the U.S. Navy Reserve and has served as an assistant operations officer, admiral’s aide, special assistant to the director and more.

Power of the Purse is a program that aims to implement and develop programs and projects to advance and improve the personal, economic and professional status of women.

This event was co-sponsored by the Office of Student Success & Retention, Student Services, Alumni and Development, and Career Services. To get involved with Power of the Purse or to learn more about future events, contact Deborah McHenry, executive director of student success & retention..
