Friends and supporters have helped Trine University set a fundraising record with its annual Scholarship Gala. The Saturday evening event raised $535,000 that will provide scholarships for Trine students.

“A sincere thank you is extended to the amazing individuals and regional businesses for helping us surpass the previous record,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president. “More importantly, it enables us to award more dollars in scholarships to our students.” This academic year, 98 percent of Trine students shared $24 million in gift aid.

While Brooks is proud of the record, he’s quick to add that solid support from trustees, alumni, employees, university friends and the community made it possible. More than 400 individuals, businesses and organizations financially supported the 12th annual event.

Student Britney Browning illuminated the importance of the event and how much it helps students.

“The spirit of helping continues because of such great events like the Scholarship Gala. You have not only helped me, but many of my friends are able to continue their education at Trine University because of your kindness,” said Browning, a first generation college student. “For many of us, we would not be here today without your support.”

Last year, the event raised more than $450,000.

For 2016, the gala, which includes dinner, auctions and live music, is scheduled for Feb. 13.
