99.5% of Trine’s Class of 2023 employed; 65% in Indiana

October 30, 2023

Trine University’s Class of 2023 saw 99.5% of its members obtain their desired career outcome within six months of graduation.

That figure matches the employment and graduate school placement rate for Trine’s Class of 2022. The placement average for Trine graduates is now more than 99% over the last 11 years.

“We require that any degree at Trine University lead to gainful employment after graduation, and this continues to be reflected in our outstanding career outcome figures,” said John Shannon, Ph.D., Trine University president. “Combined with our commitment to personal attention and practical experiences through internships and co-ops, our laser focus on academic programs that meet industry needs equips our graduates to immediately succeed in the workforce.”

Trine’s Class of 2023 saw almost 65% of its graduates employed in Indiana, and more than 91% stay in the Midwest.

“In an environment where brain drain is a concern for any state, Trine University and other institutions of higher learning provide a ‘brain gain’ by bringing students here who fall in love with Indiana, then stay, live and work here,” Shannon said.

Working in their field

More than 97% of Trine’s Class of 2023 reported employment in their field of study.

In addition to the overall figures, Trine’s Franks School of Education reported that 100% of its graduates seeking teaching positions have now been employed for 12 straight years.

“It’s gratifying that almost all our students not only report getting employed or admitted to graduate school, but the vast majority are able to work in the fields they have grown to love during their time at Trine,” said Jason Blume, assistant vice president for Innovation One.

Trine’s employment rate for its graduates remains more than 15% higher than the most recent national figures. National figures for the Class of 2021, the most recent year available, showed 84.1% of college graduates employed with six months of completing their degree.

Events hosted by Trine University’s Career Center, which play a significant role in connecting students with employers, continue to grow.

The university set a record at its fall 2023 Tailgate for Talent Career Fair, with 134 employers participating, the most at a single fall career fair. More than 650 students attended the event, tying previous marks for participation.

The career fair was sponsored by Shambaugh & Son, Michelin, Cardinal Glass Industries, Northwestern Mutual, Nucor Building Systems, Steel Dynamics Inc., Vestil Manufacturing and Weiland Group.

Trine University continues to excel in collecting career data about its graduates. The university had an 86% knowledge rate for the Class of 2023. The national knowledge rate for 2021, the most recent year available, was 54.7%.

“Graduates are willing to share with us about their employment outcomes because of the individual relationships we create with them as students while aiding in their career search,” said Blume. “The impact of these relationships is reflected in our amazing knowledge rate.”
