Chase Stickley, a senior golf management major at Trine University who is also completing
his MBA, has spent the last several months applying his degree skills to his internship
experience with MedPro Group.
“The general disciplines [learned] from the business school here, like interviewing
skills, mock interviewing events and various career fairs, have helped me a lot,”
said Stickley. “It’s made me more comfortable with interviewing as well as acclimating
to new environments.”
MedPro Group, a medical malpractice insurance group and Berkshire Hathaway company
headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, offers a diverse range of internship positions
in insurance risk assessment, insurance claims operations and marketing management.
While internship positions largely take place over the summer, Stickley is participating
in their year-long internship program.
“I’m a risk solutions intern,” stated Stickley. “I work with the operations team on
the risk side, so what we do is we try to avert risk for our insureds, which is primarily
centered around continued education for those insured.”
“Right now, I work specifically with a couple of Medpro’s different vendors for continued
education materials,” continued Stickley. “Or, at least the ones that aren't in-house.
I also work directly with [medical] consultants in editing different reports and documents
that they send out, as well as various projects that come up on a day-by-day basis.”
Stickley was exposed to MedPro Group, as well as their internship program, through
the Medpro Group Inside Look event promoted by the Trine Career Center.
“The position was suggested to me by their recruiter, Alex Blauvelt,” said Stickley.
“[MedPro Group] seemed like it was a really relaxed place to work just based on the
people that worked there, the equipment, and the attitudes of those who worked there.”
“It works out well,” Stickley continued. “I’m able to work full days in the office
on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and half days on Wednesdays, and still attend my in-person
classes throughout the week.”
Stickley continued by noting that MedPro Group’s work culture is his favorite aspect
of his internship position thus far.
“[I enjoy] the team that I work with,” stated Stickley. “The ability to shadow and
explore every facet of the company, as well as the freedom and autonomy to get my
work done and be trusted to get my work done. I can see myself working in a similar
role in the future, but I also know that I have the freedom to really go in any direction
that I would want.”
Stickley continues to recommend MedPro Group’s internship experience to fellow Trine
students.
“I would recommend it, one hundred percent,” said Stickley. “The internship program
that's run over the summer especially will expose [students] to a huge variety of
different people, managers, even the CEO of the company. It gives you a really good
opportunity to grow as a young professional.”
