February 09, 2024

Garrett Martz A Trine University alumnus who oversees player recruitment at Potter Sports Group joins the newest episode of Trine University’s Center for Sports Studies podcast to discuss how he got his start in sports, the power of making connections, and also responds to questions from students.

Garrett Martz, who graduated in 2004 with a marketing major, gained valuable experience early in his career as an account representative for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. His success led him to a leadership role, becoming the vice president of sales within five years. He later joined a former colleague to help build a new recruitment agency and now is responsible for identifying and recruiting professional basketball athletes to Potter Sports Group, where he currently serves as vice president.

In the podcast, Martz talks about how he and the former Mad Ants ownership launched Potter Sports Group after the Mad Ants sold to the Indiana Pacers. Through his journey of sports sales and agency work, Martz offers advice on how to break into sports and discusses the benefits and struggles of being a small firm. In this special podcast episode that is a replay of a featured speaker session, Martz also takes questions from students on sports agency work.

Produced through the Trine Broadcasting Network, the Trine Center for Sports Studies podcast focuses on the business side of sports, including interviews with sports professionals and current research in sports studies. Hosted by Center for Sports Studies director Brandon Podgorski, the podcast is available at css.transistor.fm, on platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher and YouTube.
