Matthew Jimenez is a senior design engineering technology major at Trine University.
Throughout his time as a student, Jimenez has had three internships and recently accepted
a job offer at Rolls-Royce, where he will serve as a Graduate Manufacturing Engineering
Intern.
Jimenez stated, “Rolls-Royce's market share in the aviation industry sparked my curiosity,
and asking about their manufacturing processes allowed me to discern whether I could
apply myself in the company or not based on my education and industry experience.”
When searching for job positions after graduation and internships during undergrad,
Jimenez found the Trine Career Fair to be a great networking opportunity. It provided
him with the chance to secure his position at Rolls-Royce.
“I approached Rolls-Royce through Trine's Career Fair in Fall of 2024,” Jimenez said.
He also acquired an internship at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in
Livermore, California, at the Career Fair.
The application process at Rolls-Royce was an easy one, according to Jimenez. After
the Career Fair, he was contacted and offered an interview thanks to the impression
he made.
“I only had one interview with my eventual direct supervisor, and another manufacturing
engineer. The interview went well,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez also believes due to his past experience with internships, he had a good chance
of securing a position.
He said, “I felt slightly surprised along with my excitement based on the straightforward
process, but I believe it was easy due to my past experience and familiarity with
manufacturing.”
In addition to his mechanical design internship at LLNL, Jimenez was an engineering
intern at Multimatic Inc. in New Haven, Indiana, and a mechanical engineering intern
at Steel Dynamics Inc. in Butler, Indiana.
“I greatly appreciate the relationships and mentoring provided by my past supervisors,
as it has boosted many aspects of my career and views of life. I still stay in touch
with most of them to this day,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez credits Trine with having classes that prepare students for internships and
other future job positions.
“I believe all classes provide value to this position as it pertains to manufacturing,
management and decision making,” Jimenez says.
Jimenez continues to have bright plans for his future in the field of design engineering
technology. He plans to either attain a director/general managerial role at a company
or start his own business.
