Dr. Amy Heavin joins Trine Cabinet as vice president for student affairs

Amy HeavinTrine University President Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., has announced that Amy Heavin, Ph.D., has been named vice president for student affairs at Trine University as part of the transition to the upcoming presidency of Tony Kline, Ph.D.

Dr. Kline will become president of the university on June 1.

Dr. Heavin had served as assistant dean for academics since 2025, where her duties included oversight of the university’s Office of Student Success.

In her new role, her supervision will expand to include the executive director of housing and residence life, the dean of student and community relations, the executive director of student success, mental health counseling, the health center, and the director of student engagement, leadership and service.

“Dr. Heavin is a tremendous leader, who has a long track record of being driven, creative, organized, positive and always working to best support students,” said Dr. Kline. “These attributes align closely with what we do best at Trine University, and she will thrive in this new role.”

“We’ve made positive strides in providing academic support to students through the Office of Student Success, and bringing these diverse areas together will provide an even better experience for students during their time here,” Dr. Heavin said. “I’m honored by Dr. Kline’s confidence in me and looking forward to this next chapter in my work at Trine.”

At Trine since 2022

Dr. Heavin joined the university to launch its Transition to Teaching (T2T) program in 2022, serving as director of the effort.

She came to Trine from Ryan Park Elementary School in Angola, where she had served as principal since 2013. She was honored as Indiana Association of School Principals District 3 Elementary Principal of the Year in 2018.

She holds a Ph.D. and M.Ed. in educational leadership from Indiana State University and a Bachelor of Musical Arts from DePauw University.
