Trine’s PT program 1 of 6 nationwide with perfect pass rate

January 26, 2026

Trine University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program was one of only six out of more than 250 nationwide to have all its students pass the national licensure exam on the first try during the most recent cycle.

According to data released by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy, Trine students had a 91% first-time pass rate in the 2022-2023 cycle and a 96% pass rate for the 2023-2024 cycle before achieving the perfect rate for 2024-2025.

The average pass rate nationwide for 259 programs was just over 85%.

“It’s outstanding to be one of the top six programs in the nation, and a testament to the expertise of our faculty, the support of our administration and the dedication of our students,” said Max Baumgartner, PT, Ph.D., director of Trine’s physical therapy program. “Licensure is the gateway to a career in physical therapy, and the fact that our PT students excel in this first step is a strong indicator of the future success they will have in the field.”

About the program

Located in the Brooks College of Health Professions (BCHP) in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Trine University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy is a three-year, full-time program that prepares students to sit for licensure and practice in a clinical setting. The program partners with many local health providers, including Parkview Health and Lutheran Health Network, for clinical education during the first two years of the program as well as full-time internships in the final year.

The 110,000-square-feet BCHP offers state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories and features, in partnership with the Parkview Mirro Center, an innovative Simulated Patient Care Center (SimCenter) including mock surgery and Emergency Room suites and exam and patient rooms.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program provides opportunities for health sciences students on Trine’s Angola campus to continue to graduate school and health professions careers. This includes a 3+3 option that allows Trine students to count their first year of graduate classes toward their undergraduate degree.
