Angola resident Anna Petersen heard a lot about Trine University even before she started thinking about where to attend college. She liked what she heard, particularly about the university’s job placement success.

“I always heard how people are going to school and they’re not actually using their degree. I did not want to be another one of those numbers,” she said.

The communication major commutes to Trine — not only saving money but allowing her to keep her own space with her cat and all her clothes — but said she has made many friends by taking part in campus events.

“There’s no way not to meet people,” she said. “One of my favorite memories is the hypnotist they brought in. He hypnotized 10 of the quietest students on campus and he had them hopping around like kangaroos and making up superheroes.”

Amy Nicholls, dean of the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences, has been instrumental in helping Anna choose her major and stay on track to graduate in only three years.

“She showed me all the possible opportunities for my communications major, helped me sign up for my summer classes and get an internship,” she said.

Anna eventually wants to work in media, social media or public relations. She plans to complete more internships during her time at Trine and said the university’s job fairs are helping her see all the possibilities she has.

“The job fairs have made me realize that pretty much every place has a place for communication majors,” she said.
