Revolutionize engagement with the digital realm
The Bachelor of Science in extended reality at Trine University enables you to bridge the gap between human needs and the capabilities of computer-generated graphics. Prepare to incorporate extended reality technology into various virtual applications and real-world disciplines, such as video games, product design and the medical field.
Why Trine?
The Bachelor of Science in extended reality curriculum at Trine prioritizes training and learning in the cutting-edge extended reality lab space. You will have several opportunities to balance classroom lessons with real-world experience. Extended reality students receive IT internships as early as their first undergraduate summer. Plus, you can prepare for numerous industry-recognized certifications.
As an extended reality student at Trine, you will have access to labs that house:
- Seven AI/gaming computers built by former Trine students that have water-cooled 4090 graphics cards and AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 4.5 GHz processors with Corsair DDR5 DIMM RAM
- Five computational fluid dynamic computers built to process CFD calculations which have ThreadRipper CPUs with 256GB high-speed RAM
- Twenty high-speed gaming computers with HTC Vive VR Unites, Meta Quest 3 and 2 Units and a Microsoft HoloLens for each computer
During your time as an extended reality student at Trine, you will experience:
- Different pathways to certifications for IT, game design and programming
- Practice developing extended reality application using Unity, the world's leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D content
- An expanded technology impact through the program's AI/gaming computers which run Folding At Home scenarios when not in use. These scenarios run simulations of proteins from muscle contraction to light sensing and digesting food. The simulation insights are then provided to inform drug discovery and other efforts to combat global health threats.
- A competitive advantage through encouraged learning of programming units in the extended reality lab
- Mixed Reality Development and Application: Receive an introduction to the fundamentals of mixed reality applications. Learn how to determine the distinctions between smartphone and headset mixed reality applications and how to apply them to real-world problems. Practice with industry-standard API software for AI-powered mixed reality application development.
- 3D Modeling and Design for Extended Reality: Use industry-standard 3D computer graphic software to apply fundamentals of 3D modeling and design to produce optimized content for augmented and virtual reality. Learn to create captivating visuals for extended reality experiences using 3D animation techniques.
- Introduction to AR Development: Learn about computer-human interaction that combines digital and physical experiences with the use of augmented reality (AR). Create AR applications using an industry-stand game engine. Prepare to take the Unity Associate Game Developer Certification.
