Dual enrollment impact

Taking dual enrollment courses is a great way to earn college credit while still in high school. These courses can help you get a head start on your degree while saving both time and money.

It is important to understand that dual enrollment courses become part of your official college transcript. The grades you earn and the academic decisions you make now may impact future college admissions, scholarship opportunities and financial aid eligibility.

Monitoring your enrollment and academic status

Confirm Your Enrollment
Make sure you are officially enrolled in the course(s) you plan to take.

  • Verify that you can access your course(s) in Trine’s systems
  • Check that your course(s) appears in your class schedule and Moodle dashboard
  • If you do not see your course(s) listed, contact your high school counselor or Trine’s Office of Dual Enrollment immediately

Check Your Trine Email Regularly
Important information—including course access details, schedule changes, instructor communication and account updates—is sent to your Trine email account. Be sure to check it frequently.

Track Your Academic Progress
Stay current on assignments, quizzes and grades throughout the course. Dual enrollment classes are college-level courses that require strong time management, responsibility and consistent effort.

Important notes on academic standing and financial aid

If you plan to apply for financial aid in the future, it is important to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Maintaining SAP can impact your eligibility for future financial aid opportunities.

To remain in good academic standing, students should:

  • Maintain the minimum GPA required by Trine University and future colleges or universities
  • Successfully complete all courses in which they are enrolled
  • Drop courses before the official drop deadline if they are considering withdrawing from a class to avoid receiving a Withdrawal (W) on their transcript

Please note that repeated withdrawals or failing grades may negatively affect future financial aid eligibility.

Planning ahead with dual enrollment

While it may be tempting to take a large number of dual enrollment courses, it is important to be strategic when selecting classes.

  • Taking too many dual enrollment courses may limit your course options once you officially enroll in a college degree program.
  • If you enter college with excess credits that do not align with your intended major, you may have difficulty maintaining full-time enrollment status.
  • Falling below full-time status can impact financial aid eligibility, scholarships and other student benefits.

Carefully planning your dual enrollment coursework with your high school counselor and future college goals in mind can help you maximize the benefits of the program.
