Trine to host panel of actuarial science pros

March 29, 2022

Anyone interested in the field of actuarial science is invited to a panel discussion with professionals in the field hosted by Trine University’s Department of Mathematics on April 21.

The discussion will begin at 4 p.m. in Best Hall 229 on Trine University’s Angola campus, and is free and open to the public. Light appetizers by Bon Appetit will be served.

Panel members are:

  • Brian Shively, FSA, former owner of Summit Reinsurance Services
  • Mark Haarer, FSA, MAAA, founder of Mark Haarer Consulting, LLC
  • Sandy Lowe, FCAS, associate actuary, Allstate
  • Niko Macaluso, actuarial analyst, MedPro

Macaluso is also a 2012 mathematics alumnus of Trine University.

Trine launched its Bachelor of Science in actuarial science degree program in 2020. The program prepares students for a career as an actuary. Graduates have the knowledge and skills to pass the preliminary exams given by the Society of Actuaries, as well as the foundation needed to prepare to pass the remaining exams offered by the society.

The degree prepares graduates to work in government or for any business that needs to manage financial risk, including insurance companies, consulting firms, large corporations, hospitals, banks and investment firms.
