Lindsay Omlor, director of charter schools, was part of a panel discussing the complexities of charter school renewal at the 2023 National Charter Schools Conference by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, held June 18-21 in Austin, Texas.
Titled “When the Stakes Are Too High: Navigating the Post-Pandemic Renewal Cliff,” the panel discussed topics including charter school accountability, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the definition of “high-quality.”
“One of our team’s goals over the course of the next three years is to expand our national reach, as we focus on equity,” Omlor said. “As a part of that work, we’ve partnered with The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and the National Charter Schools Institute to share our approach on how we’re differentiating oversight for our schools in a way that keeps expectations high, but also gives us a more informed, equitable look at school performance.”
The National Charter Schools Conference (NCSC) is the largest national gathering of educators, advocates and leaders in the charter community.
Omlor and Emily Gaskill, assistant director of accountability. also co-presented in May at a virtual gathering of Authorizing for All, outlining Education One’s approach to the Liberatory Design for Equity Process, an approach to addressing equity challenges and change efforts in complex systems.
In June, the pair co-presented on a similar topic at a National Charter Schools Institute event in Denver.
