Trine bridge teams compete in online tournament

Two Trine University bridge teams participated in the first online collegiate team tournament of the year Sunday, Feb. 18.

The teams played eight matches of six hands each, beginning at 12:30 p.m. and ending about 7:30.

There were 26 teams total, two of which were from Trine.

The Thunder Aces were made up of Isaac Braun, a sophomore from Portland, Indiana, majoring in chemical engineering; Ryan Hoak, a junior from Warsaw, Indiana, majoring in civil engineering; Cameron Orr, a master of business administration student from Angola, Indiana; and Treyton Sederstrom, a junior from Cedar Lake, Indiana, majoring in actuarial science.

The Storming Setters were made up of Keely Brooks, a senior from Van Buren, Ohio, majoring in chemical engineering; Alex Kratzer, a junior from Elkhart, Indiana, majoring in mechanical engineering; Ryan Sederstrom, a freshman from Cedar Lake, Indiana, majoring in electrical engineering; and Christopher Shively, a junior from Churubusco, Indiana, majoring in accounting.

Each Trine team won three matches, beating teams from Alberta, New York University and Amherst. 

The Thunder Aces finished 21st and the Storming Setters 23rd. A team from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, won the tournament.

This year’s national tournament will be held as part of the North American Bridge Championships, July 18-28 in Toronto.
