Lindsay Omlor, Executive Director of Education One, presented in collaboration with Matthew Missias from Grand Valley State University and Angel Hightower Malone of Limestone Charter Association. Their session focused on the transformative power of school choice in fostering stronger, more equitable communities.
This mirrored the keynote address by Dr. Ronald Williams Jr., who shared the history of Hawaii, emphasizing the disenfranchisement of the Hawaiian people and the ever-present inequities that continue to define and shape the narrative throughout Hawaii. Omlor highlighted the significance of this in relation to Education One’s mission, “True equity in education is not just about access, but about providing every individual with the opportunity to thrive within a system that values and nurtures a student’s unique potential. In our session, we explored how school choice plays a pivotal role in creating these opportunities, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have access to an education that supports their personal growth and lifelong success.”
An additional goal of the conference is to provide a place for academicians and professionals with cross-disciplinary interests related to education to meet and interact with members inside and outside their own particular disciplines. Omlor remarked about the significance of presenting and collaborating with professionals across the globe, “Collaboration across disciplines is essential in shaping innovative solutions to the challenges we face in education. By coming together with professionals from diverse backgrounds, we not only broaden our perspectives but also strengthen our collective ability to create meaningful change for students in Indiana and around the world. I am so excited to be able to share more about the work Education One is doing to positively impact the education sector.”
