Mathematics is the language of the universe. It is the study of patterns in shape, time, distance and space through careful reasoning and rigorous deductions. Modern applications include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), encryption for secure commerce on the internet, and algorithms for speech recognition.
Our program offers small classes taught by full-time professors who are committed to their professions and committed to the development of each student's full potential in a friendly environment. Every student is assigned a faculty adviser who will assist in designing an individualized program of study.
Men and women trained in mathematics are employed in a wide variety of fields where data analysis and logical thought processes are critical. Undergraduate training in mathematics trains students to organize their thought processes and hone their critical thinking skills. Graduates of our program are employed at NASA, Microsoft, Steel Dynamics, bioenergy companies, and logistics companies. A number of our graduates have gone on to graduate school at Notre Dame, Central Michigan, and Indiana University.

Juveniles who have been part of Steuben County’s Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) program as opposed to being incarcerated are less likely to re-offend as adults, according to research by two Trine University faculty members. While many professors would frown on students playing games during class, it was encouraged in one Trine University course this past spring. The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) has welcomed Haseeb Kazi, Ph.D., professor of mathematics at Trine University, to its Board of Directors.
