Trine's Master of Science in nursing (MSN) family nurse practitioner track is designed with working nurses in mind. This fully online, flexible format allows you to continue working while advancing your education. You can complete this program is as few as six semesters, with a clear, structured pathway that supports steady progression.
Develop clinical confidence through support and guidance
Throughout the program, you'll receive dedicated practicum support, including guidance in securing and navigating clinical placements. The curriculum includes 576 supervised clinical hours across diverse patient populations, ensuring you graduate with the hands-on experience, clinical confidence and decision-making skills needed to provide high-quality, patient-centered care across the lifespan.
Track competencies
All MSN graduates share advanced core outcomes, followed by track-specific outcomes. Upon completion of the MSN program, graduates will:
- Synthesize advanced nursing knowledge by integrating advanced scientific, theoretical and specialty knowledge to improve healthcare outcomes across diverse populations and systems.
- Lead systems change by designing, implementing and evaluating system-level initiatives that improve quality, safety and equity in healthcare delivery.

Family nurse practitioner track-specific competencies:
- Provide advanced comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies based on evidence and clinical guidelines.
- Manage care for individuals and populations across the lifespan (as appropriate to population focus).
- Lead interprofessional care teams in complex healthcare environments.
- Evaluate patient and population outcomes to improve advanced practice care delivery.
