BS Health and Physical Education

Trine University Student AchievementsThe Bachelor of Science with a major in health and physical education dual licensure program at Trine University prepares you to teach in classrooms from preschool to grade 12. This allows you to play an important role in the future of our youth.

Extensive field experience with modern curriculum

In the Bachelor of Science with a major in health and physical education dual licensure program, you will learn the science of the human body through anatomy, kinesiology and exercise physiology. Courses in motor learning, sport psychology and athletic training will help you to understand the theory and practice behind developing a healthy lifestyle. Extensive field experiences are completed in both the elementary and the high school settings.

Our faculty come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, all related to classroom teaching, advanced research and preparing future teachers. The academically rigorous teacher education program focuses on:

  • the most up-to-date curriculum
  • instructional strategies
  • classroom management techniques
  • innovative integration of classroom technology

Students spend nearly 400 hours in field experiences prior to graduation, beginning in the very first semester and concluding with a semester-long student teaching experience.

Be prepared for your teaching career

In 2017, 100 percent of superintendents and principals surveyed indicated that Franks School of Education graduates were more prepared as first-year teachers compared to other college. Graduates from the Franks School have a high level of job placement, with 100 percent of graduates employed or in graduate school over the past several years. In addition to classroom teaching, students have obtained other educationally related positions, and still others go on to complete master's degrees. Feedback from school administrators consistently refers to how well the Trine University teacher education graduates are prepared to begin teaching from day one in the classroom and how effective these teachers are far beyond graduation.
