By: Cooper Lee, Executive Editor

Nomination for the 2021 Jeanine Samuelson Award are now, officially open, and the deadline to submit a student is Monday, April 19th by 5PM.

Students are nominated by their peers, and should be amongst the best, and brightest that the HAC Department has to offer. This award is given to a student who personifies all the admired qualities of a successful HAC Department student who has had a profound impact on both their peers, and the department. To nominate a deserving student, one must write a one-to-two-page essay explaining why the nominee deserves to be recognized by the department. Once written, the essay should be submitted through email to Dr. Christine Olding and Chandra VanAken.

This award is dedicated to Dr. Jeanine Samuelson, who taught at Trine for 20 years, and in that time, she worked as a German instructor, as well as different sections of speech. She was beloved by her students and remains active in the department today.

HAC majors and minors of any academic standing are eligible to be nominated for the award. The Chair of the Humanities and Communication Department, Dr. Christine Olding set the requirements, writing, “Majors include Communications, PWES/English, and English Education. Minors include Humanities, English, and Communications. The lucky student will be determined by faculty with consideration of the number of nominations a student received and the quality of the nomination letter.”
